the Spartan King was a powerful figure known for his courage. He famously headed the Spartan forces against the huge Persian army at the battlefield in 480 BC. Even though they were heavily overshadowed, the Spartans, under Leonidas's inspiring leadership, fought with relentless determination.

A small force of thirty thousand/20,000 loyal soldiers/dedicated volunteers, barely a flicker on the radar compared to the monolithic million-strong army/massive force/impenetrable wall of soldiers. Yet, they stood their ground, their faces etched with determination/a mixture of fear and resolve as the enemy advanced.
